The sun shone for the OARA Street Party on Sunday 7th June. The party was timed to coincide with the Eden Project Big Lunch, which aims to get as many people as possible across the UK to have lunch with their neighbours on the first Sunday in June each year in a simple act of community, friendship and fun. There was plenty of neighbourly friendship and fun in the air at this OARA event. The local community – long-term residents, students, schoolchildren, families new to the area, members of one of the local churches and the local police team amongst them – turned out in force to share food, live music, face-painting, local history, street games, a vegetable sculpture competition and conversation. The occasion was a happy chance for neighbours, from different generations, cultures and walks of life, to get to know each other a little better and build on the growing sense of community spirit in the area. Thank you to everyone who helped make it a happy and successful event.
